About the Instagram Post Size

Instagram crops anything that does not fit its feed, often cutting off heads or text. This tool turns your photo into a 1080 by 1080 pixel square post before you upload, so you decide what shows. Fill the square and drag the photo to choose the crop, or fit the whole photo inside it with a background colour behind.

What you can do

• Output a 1080×1080 image, the standard square Instagram feed size.
• Choose "Fill (crop to fit)" to cover the square, or "Fit (add background)" to keep the whole picture.
• Drag the photo inside the square to frame it, and zoom from 100 to 300 percent.
• In Fit mode, pick white, black, light grey, navy or any custom background colour.

When it works best

• Posting a landscape travel photo without Instagram cutting off the edges.
• Making a wide poster or quote graphic fit the grid with a solid border.
• Giving a series of posts the same square framing for a tidy profile grid.

Things to know

• The photo is framed and saved in your browser and is not sent anywhere.
• Only the square size is produced; portrait 4:5 posts and 9:16 stories need Crop Image with a ratio, then Resize Image.
• Zooming a small photo enlarges its pixels, so start from an image at least 1080 pixels on its shorter side.
• Instagram recompresses every upload, so a little softness after posting is normal.
