About the Convert Image

Different places want different image formats: an old CMS that only takes JPG, a design tool that needs PNG, a website that loads faster with WebP. This converter re-saves one image as PNG, JPG or WebP inside your browser. You can also scale it while converting, or give it a kilobyte limit and let it work out the quality and dimensions needed to fit.

What you can do

• Pick PNG, JPG or WebP as the target format with one button.
• Set JPG or WebP quality from 10 to 100 percent with a slider.
• Scale the image from 1 to 200 percent while converting, or tap 10, 25, 50, 75, 100 or 150 percent.
• Turn on "Convert by file size" and enter a KB limit to get the largest image that fits.

When it works best

• Turning a BMP or AVIF image that your browser can open into a JPG for an email.
• Saving a website image as WebP to cut page weight.
• Converting and shrinking an image in one pass to meet an upload rule such as "JPG under 200 KB".

Things to know

• Conversion runs on your own machine through the browser canvas, so the file is never uploaded.
• Saving to JPG fills transparent areas with white, since JPG has no transparency.
• PNG has no quality setting, so a PNG size limit is reached by reducing dimensions only.
• Only the first frame of an animated GIF is kept. For many files, use Convert Images in Bulk.
