About the GIF Maker

Animated GIFs still play almost everywhere, from chat apps to email clients that block video. This tool has two modes. Make turns a set of still images into an animated GIF with the frame delay, size and looping you choose. Split does the reverse: it takes a GIF apart and gives you every frame as a PNG. Both run entirely in your browser.

What you can do

  • Add PNG, JPG, WebP or GIF images as frames, then drag them into order or remove them.
  • Set the delay per frame from 20 to 10,000 milliseconds.
  • Set the GIF width from 16 to 1920 pixels; the height follows the first frame.
  • Choose "Loop forever" or "Play once".
  • In Split mode, drop a GIF to download all its frames as numbered PNGs in a zip.

When it works best

  • Showing a product from several angles, or a before-and-after, as one moving image.
  • Turning a few screenshots into a short how-to animation for documentation or a bug report.
  • Pulling a single still out of a reaction GIF.

Things to know

  • Frames are encoded on your device; neither the images nor the GIF are uploaded.
  • GIF uses a fixed palette of a few hundred colours, so photos and gradients show banding.
  • Frames with a different shape from the first are fitted inside it on a white background, and transparency is not kept.
  • You need at least two images, and long or wide animations quickly become large files. Shrink frames first with Resize Images in Bulk.

Frequently asked questions

Each frame can show for 20 to 10,000 milliseconds.

Switch to Split mode and drop the GIF. Every frame downloads as a numbered PNG in a zip.

GIF has a limited palette of a few hundred colours, so gradients and photos lose smoothness.

They are fitted inside the first frame on a white background, and transparency is not kept.

At least two. Keep the width modest, since large animations grow quickly in size.
