About the PNG to JPG
PNG is ideal for screenshots and graphics, but photos saved as PNG are often several times larger than they need to be, and some forms only accept JPG. This tool re-encodes a PNG as a JPG at a quality you set, cutting the file size of photographic images sharply. Because JPG cannot store transparency, see-through areas are filled with white.
What you can do
- Convert a PNG to JPG with a quality slider that starts at 90 percent.
- Lower quality to make the file smaller, watching the preview for blocky edges.
- Compare the PNG size with the new JPG size before saving.
- Keep the original pixel width and height.
When it works best
- A photo that was exported as PNG and is too heavy to email.
- A form or older website that rejects anything except .jpg files.
- Shrinking a screenshot of a photo or video frame, where JPG artefacts are hard to see.
Things to know
- Your PNG is converted locally and stays on your device.
- Transparent backgrounds turn white; logos meant to sit on coloured pages will show a white box.
- JPG blurs sharp text and flat colour slightly, so diagrams and UI screenshots often look better as PNG or WebP.
- To keep transparency and still save space, use PNG to WebP instead.
