How it works

About the Crop Image

Cropping removes what you do not want in a picture: a stranger at the edge of a group photo, a browser toolbar in a screenshot, empty sky above a landscape. Here you drag a box over your image to choose the part to keep, optionally locked to a common aspect ratio, and the tool cuts it out at full resolution in your browser.

What you can do

• Choose Free for any shape, or lock the box to 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, 16:9 or 9:16.
• Drag the box to move it and pull its bottom-right handle to change its size.
• See the cropped result update as soon as you let go of the box.
• Download the crop in the original format, at the original pixel density.

When it works best

• Making a square profile picture from a wider photo.
• Cutting a 16:9 thumbnail for a video, or a 9:16 frame for a story.
• Trimming a screenshot down to the one dialog or error message that matters.

Things to know

• The photo is cropped in your browser tab and never uploaded.
• The crop keeps the original pixels and does not scale them, so a small crop from a large photo stays sharp but has fewer pixels. Use Resize Image to set an exact size afterwards.
• There is no numeric input for the crop box. For the same crop by percentage across many images, use Image Workflow.
• For social networks with fixed sizes, the Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter post size tools are a quicker fit.
