About the Resize Image

Upload forms, email clients and website builders often reject a photo because it is too wide or too heavy. This tool changes the pixel dimensions of a single JPG, PNG or WebP image on a canvas inside your browser. Type an exact width and height, tap a quick percentage, or switch to "Resize by file size" and let it find the largest image that fits under a kilobyte limit.

What you can do

• Enter a width and height in pixels; with "Lock aspect ratio" ticked, changing one updates the other so the picture is not stretched.
• Scale in one tap to 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 75 or 150 percent of the original size.
• Set a maximum file size in KB, and the tool lowers quality first, then dimensions, until the image fits.
• Compare the original and new file size under the preview, and rename the file before you download it.

When it works best

• A job portal or government form that only accepts photos under 50 KB or 100 KB.
• Shrinking a 4000-pixel phone photo down to 1200 pixels wide for a blog post.
• Making a product shot match the exact pixel size a marketplace listing asks for.

Things to know

• Nothing is uploaded: the resizing happens on your device, so it also works for private documents and ID photos.
• In file-size mode, a PNG is saved as a JPG with a white background, because PNG cannot be squeezed by lowering quality. WebP stays WebP.
• If the limit is too small to reach, you get the smallest result possible and a note saying the target was missed.
• Enlarging past 100 percent adds pixels but not detail, so text and edges get soft. For many files at once, use Resize Images in Bulk.
